a post about a pillow

 I made this pillow the other day for my living room couch. I actually took apart one of my old ones that was getting lumpy and used the same stuffing for this new one. I've been holding on to this amazing remnant, waiting for a good use for it. I love the print, don't you?  I used the entire piece I had. I didn't have the heart to cut it up! I really really love it.
(well, as much as you can love a pillow! haha...)

 this is the fabric I used for the other side. 

 little uneven hand stitches. 

(this is kind of my favorite part. I love looking at hand stitches on vintage quilts and such. The uneven stitches make me think of the person who made it, all those years ago.)

and I like to think that Clint's head will be resting on my little stitches when he takes his naps.

I've been thinking a lot lately about what my intentions were when I started this blog years ago. I gave it the name "eager hands" because I wanted to talk about how I find God in the act of making things with my hands. And I wanted to encourage others to be intentional about fostering creativity in their lives and in the lives of their children.  

This little pillow is an example of that. It's not perfectly made. But I made it with my own two hands. And every time I look at it, I can be proud of myself. And I can take pride in the little things that I have made around my house to make it a home. A peaceful place for my husband and children to dwell.  And when Clint lays his head back on the couch against that soft squishy pillow, and his eyes close into sweet sleep for a catnap after a long day's work, I can feel happy knowing that my little pillow played a part. :)

And then I can thank God for using my little (eager) hands to come closer to Him,
in the simple things. 

Making a peaceful home for my family. 

Being resourceful. 

Being productive. 

Bringing beauty.

And just to encourage all of you lovelies out there reading this, you don't have to sew or even be "crafty" to use your hands to bring beauty into your home. It's the little things that matter. Truly. I am learning that more and more everyday. I want to encourage you to make something with your hands today to bless your family. It's about being intentional. Setting aside a little bit of time to foster creativity in your heart and in the hearts of your family. 

Get out the finger paints. 
Make an extra special peanut butter and jelly sandwich. 
Sew a little garland for a bare window. 

Make cards for the grandparents and have the kiddos contribute.
Simmer some cinnamon and cloves on the stove.

Just do something with your hands today to add to the beauty. 

You'll be glad you did!
